As of September 1st my hours are changing at True Grit Tattoos as I’ll be staying at home with my daughter Dahlia.

I will be available for appointments Sundays 11am-6pm, Thursdays 11am-8pm and Fridays 6:30pm-8pm.

Jeff will be available all other days of the week.

Also I will be doing a show in St. Catharines Ontario Saturday September 5th. Details below or you can view the event page on Facebook.

A week or so ago we had a guest at True Grit Tattoos. The amazing Buck Angel came by to use the studio to shoot the opening scenes of his new movie. I’m not sure when it’s coming out and no sex, nude scenes were shot at the studio. Sorry to disappoint. But keep your eyes peeled for shots of the shop in the movie!

It seems we may have another special guest sometime next year. I’ll release details at a later date once everything is confirmed.

True Grit Tattoos would like to extend a warm welcome to Jeff Ing (formerly of Mata Mata in Hamilton) to the team.

Of course this means my personal hours will be changing.
I will be available wed-sat 11am-8pm from now on.

Jeff has been piercing for 4 1/2 years. He has an extensive understanding of piercing, jewelry, metals, human anatomy etc…

He is trained in Blood Borne Pathogens, Infection Control and Sterilization. He is also trained in CPR.

Take a look at his portfolio on the True Grit fan page on facebook and call to book an appointment with him.

Jeff is available Sunday 11am-6pm, Monday and Tuesday 11am-8pm.

ALSO…. Been stumped on what to get that special someone for their birthday, back to school, anniversary or even x-mas (yes it’s early but I know we have already started our x-mas shopping)? Well look no further!! True Grit Tattoos & Body Piercing now has GIFT CERTIFICATES!!

That’s right! Why buy them something that they will only eat, damage or grow out of? Why not give them the gift that lasts a lifetime?!

Call or drop on by and enquire about the Gift Certificates and book an appointment with one of the overly talented artists and piercers!

I am no longer piercing at Way Cool Oakville. After 3 years of service I have decided to part ways and move closer to home. I can now be found at True Grit Tattoos in Burlington. Just a short drive from Way Cool Oakville.

True Grit Tattoos is an internally threaded shop only. You will get nothing but the best quality jewelry and the same great quality service from me as before. All jewelry is certified implant grade jewelry and follows ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) guidelines.

My hours have yet to be defined but for the moment I will be available Tuesday to Saturday 11am-8pm. Call and set up an appointment. Although appointments aren’t required, they are encouraged. Appointments will get priority over walk ins.

See you soon!

As some of you may know I will be aiding in teaching as part of my training to in the future become a teacher of two industry courses on Sunday March 8th and Monday March 9th with Health Educators Inc. in Toronto, Canada. Both courses are must haves in this industry. Both courses will be held at 1 Hook Ave. Studio 13. Toronto Ontario, Canada

Sunday March 8th will be a course on Blood Borne Pathogens & Infection Control For The Modification Practitioner. Which will run from 10:30am - 5:30pm (registration at 10am) and is $175 per person at the door.

Monday March 9th will be a course on Sterilization From Start To Finish For The Modification Practitioner. Which will run from 10:30am - 5:30pm (registration at 10am) and is $200 per person at the door.

Though if you attend both courses it will only cost $200 per person!! That’s a $100 savings!

Also in mid June I will be away from piercing at Way Cool Tattoos Oakville for about two to three weeks as I am expecting Lila’s and my child to be born. If you need to reach me please feel free to contact me via e-mail. Starting September I will be working two days a week as I will be a stay at home dad. If you want to get pierced by me or need to speak with me, again feel free to e-mail me. If our schedules conflict, I will gladly refer you to an artist that I would trust with my own body.

As some of you may be aware, Andrew Niland, who is a good friend and fellow body modification artist, was arrested earlier this week in North Bay, Ontario, along with his girlfriend, Adrianne Carbone. Here’s the pertinent information from the North Bay Nugget, a local newspaper:

“Andrew Niland, 29, was granted bail Thursday. However, he remains in jail until he posts a $10,000 no-cash bond and finds two people approved by court to be his sureties to ensure he follows his release conditions.

Niland and his girlfriend Adrianne Carbone, 21, were arrested last week and jointly charged with aggravated assault for performing a labia reduction on a woman Jan. 18 at his residence.

Niland is also charged with two other counts of aggravated assault for placing an implant in that same woman’s chest — used to create a shape under the skin — in September 2007 and performing another labia-reduction procedure last April.

Court heard there are exceptions to charges involving bodily harm when it comes to piercing which could drive the issue into Canada’s highest court for a decision on consensual body modifications.

Justice of the Peace James Bubba heard that the women involved had asked to have the procedures done to them.

If he’s released, Niland is not allowed to perform certain procedures — such as branding or scarring — although he will be allowed to continue piercing if the procedure is done to accommodate a piece of jewelry.

He’s also banned from having any weapons.

Niland is facing additional charges of possessing a prohibited weapon and careless storage of that weapon after police found a .22-calibre handgun at his residence.”

The weapons charge is another matter altogether, and I take no stance on that aspect of the case. However, the fact remains that Andrew was arrested for allegedly performing procedures on consenting adults, and the allegations of “aggravated assault” are ludicrous. He was charged as such because, under Ontario law, a person cannot legally consent to the procedures Andrew performed (unless, of course, they were being performed by a doctor). But this has always been a debate central to body modification, and now that its profile is only getting higher, these are issues that are going to have be addressed with the public at large: How much control do we truly have over our own bodies? If a grown woman, of the age of majority, of sound mind, and of her own volition, wishes to have a private practitioner perform a labia reduction on her, or to implant a silicone star, or any other number of things we see frequently in this community, should the state be allowed intercede? And if so, where is the line drawn?

If the story told is accurate, then Andrew did not coerce these people into having these procedures done: They sought him out. He is only in custody right now because the law dictates that adults are not allowed to make certain choices about their bodies. This case has the potential to have massive repercussions on the body modification industry and on our extended community, and we hope that you’ll all follow it closely. BME will keep you all up to date as much as possible. I will also be reposting their findings. I have had no contact with Andy since his arrest.

Please help Andy by donating to his paypal account for legal fees.
Andy’s paypal is linked to aniland@gmail.com. Please send paypal payments to that address in order to help him.

My good friend Paul wrote an article about a suspension I did for him.

You can view it HERE

I’ll be posting some information about piercings and the industry within Canada that I feel the public should know. Too many people assume that just because a shop is open, that the piercer/tattooists know what they are doing. More on that another time.

For now check out the article. Paul has a great writing style and I love reading anything he’s wrote.
